Dr. Philip Phillips foi um médico, grande empresário e extraordinário filantropista muito ativo na Flórida Central. Depois de se formar médico em Nova York ele se estabeleceu aqui na Flórida e também se tornou um grande produtor de laranjas e chegou a ter mais de 5000 acres de laranjais. Em 1953 ele vendeu seu patrimônio no cultivo de laranjas e estabeleceu a Dr. Phillips Foundation e ele pessoalmente continuou no ramo imobiliário que depois foi passado a seu filho Howard Phillips.
Muitos estabelecimentos levam o nome Dr. Phillips em sua homenagem aqui na região de Orlando e Flórida Central, tais como: Dr. P. Phillips Baby Place at Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Orlando Regional Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, The Dr. Phillips House e agora o restaurado Historic Inn where Dr. Phillips had lived, Dr. Phillips High School, o bairro Dr. Phillips em Orlando e o Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
